When I was turning into the parking lot, I made my way to the corner for a parking spot. There was a lady leaving so I put on my blinker and waited patiently for her to back out.
After she backed out, a little blue car came from the other side to cut me off to head towards the spot. MY SPOT. The one that I had been waiting patiently for so I could get a prime space close to the door.
To add insult to injury, this lady, who must have been close to 100 years old, jabbed her finger at me and shook her head with a scowl on her face. Jabbed her finger at me? Shook her head at me? Who does this old woman think she is?!
I was waiting patiently for the space with my blinker on so I could pull in and not have to wrestle too much with my kids before we got into the store. And this lady assumes that I was trying to take her spot, that I was just bulldozing my way in. Oh. No. She. Didn't. I'm 'bout ready to have fisticuffs with Grandma in the Target parking lot!
I just have to tell someone about this injustice so I call my mom. In the middle of the story, she says, "Oh Michelle! The insurance agent is calling on the other line. I have to take this. I'll talk to you later." *Dial tone.*
Cheese and biscuits! At this point, my blood pressure must be off the charts! I am so fired-up that as I head into Target I am thinking, "I am going to track this lady down and give her a piece of my mind."
At this point, J says, "Mama, can I have an 'Icing? A red one?" "Sure", I tell J. I go and get him an 'Icing' as he calls it. He holds his Icing and takes a drink. J smiles at me and says, "This Icing is so so good, mama. Can we go see the toys now?"
As I look at his little smiling face, lips stained red from the 'Icing', I can feel my anger fading away. Sweet baby LT starts babbling and pointing at things, and, suddenly, there is no room for anger in my heart anymore. I am thinking, "Forget about it, Michelle. Just let it go. It's not worth it."
So, we continue on our quest for t-shirts and toys! Not to be deterred by some crazy spawn of Satan disguised as a harmless old woman!
I am taking the high road and going to let it go.
But next time, fair warning, it's going to be fisticuffs, grandma.
Hi!! You should edit your link at Finding the Funny because it ends htm rather than html and people might have a hard time finding your post :)
ReplyDeleteAnd how could they not want to with a title like Fisticuffs with Grandma?
:)
But old people get to do what they like, it's all they have left.
Thanks for letting me know the link wasn't working! And thanks for stopping by!
DeleteNext time please hand your cell phone to your kids so they can take video of you giving grandma the smack down. Thank you! :-)
ReplyDeleteOh dear! I think if it does come to blows, I will be sure to keep it under wraps. I have an image to protect, you know. Lol!
DeleteI am lauging over "Icing". Ha! Give me a minute. Okay, that would've made me mad the way she jabbed her finger at you. Boo! I'm glad you took the high road. Thanks for the laughs and thanks for linking up with #findingthefunny!
ReplyDeleteI know, right?! 'Icing' too cute! Yep, it did hack me off but what am I gonna do? Punch grandma in the nose? Nah. I'll take the high road. :)
DeleteSo funny! You did the right thing, but it is fun to picture you going a few rounds with satan spawn disguised as a grandma! LOL!! (came via FtheF).
ReplyDeleteThanks Paula! Glad I could make you chuckle. :)
DeleteGlad you visited!
I so totally thought you were going to be all calmed down and then turn the corner and find her and have it out right there. Somehow, a spilled icee was going to be involved. Overactive imagination, what???? found you at finding the funny.
ReplyDeleteHa ha! Now THAT would have made for an even funnier story!
DeleteThanks for visiting!
Don't you hate that? I've had that happen to me before and it drives me crazy. At least you didn't run into her in Target after you calmed down. I probably would have been sweet as pie, but had a few biting words disguised in there. For shame!
ReplyDeleteLee, I sure does chaff when that happens! A lot like waiting patiently in line and someone cuts in front of you. Some people have no manners!! ;)
Deletethat is hilarious!
ReplyDeletefound you via sits:)
Thanks for visiting, Bonnie! :)
DeleteI say, screw her elderly age--get ready to roll, Grandma!
ReplyDeleteMeredith, I like your spunk! :) I seriously thought about it...
DeleteI couldn't tell you how many times I have almost gotten into fisticuffs over a parking spot at Target! I don't care how old you are there is parking lot etiquette and not too many people follow it!
ReplyDeleteVisiting from SITS!
"Parking lot etiquette" - so true!! Thanks for visiting!
DeleteI think I just got road rage sitting at my computer reading about it. Cheese & biscuits is right!
ReplyDeleteHa ha! That old lady doesn't know who she's messing with! ;)
DeleteThanks for stopping by!
Good for you! Letting go of anger can be tough. I love that the love you feel for your kids pushed it out of your heart.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing. Stopping by from SITS.
Robin, thanks for the kind words! Yes, it can be hard doing the right thing. But if it was easy to do the right thing, then everyone would do it!
DeleteGlad you stopped by! :)
Okay, we are officially starting a Sisterhood of Parking Issues right now ;) I can definitely relate to how infuriated you must have felt. It's true we're lucky to have our kids to remind us what's really important though. But at least we also have our blogs to rant about these irritating individuals we've come across in the parking lots...
ReplyDeleteIsn't it amazing how our wee one's little faces can lighten our hearts? I do believe though that I would have gotten grandma's tag number so I could....track...her..down!!! (doing the Rocky fighter bounce here..hehe) So frustrating when someone does that, anyone, not just old folks. I will be 54 on the 18th and I'm a sweet, tenderhearted soul that would never hurt anyone or try and take their parking space...for reals!!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Regi
Too funny. I think I know that old lady! She must make the rounds to each state looking for prime parking spaces and mommy's with tots in tow to steal them from! Really! It must be so! :)
ReplyDeleteI know how you feel - seeing our kids, knowing they are watching, is sometimes all it takes to remind us what is worth it and what is not. Of course, touch one of my kids...and well...not even their smile can save you, know what I mean?
Glad I found ya at SITS! Thinking I need to add you to my reading list, so I shall! :D
There is one store here in Berkeley that I think people fight at daily for parking spots (they are hard to get) and I have had a few friendly word exchanges with my share. Sometimes you just got to do it! Lately we have just started going to another store, that goes a long way to ease the blood pressure!
ReplyDeleteLOL, oooooooh how I understand this. I have moments like this quite often actually. I dunno if it comes with living in the NYC area and sometimes dealing with, well, mildly impatient people but yea, I get this feeling. And then my blood boils and I can't focus on anything else but telling said person off.
ReplyDeleteBut you know? It never makes me feel any better. And you did the right thing. So is that the solution? I need to have kids? Cause that might take a while :)
Happy SITS day and congrats on letting it go! When your kids get a little older, the cute red ICING face will turn into the terrible trauma of teenage torture and it will be your very own kids you want to duke it out with. But for now, enjoy the melt-your-heart cute stage while it lasts!!!
ReplyDeleteMine are 14 and 17 and cute is just not how you would describe then anymore. But I think still think they are awesome and their baby pictures still melt my heart.
We can drive past a Target with my son asking for an Icee. But it has to be a blue one, which is weird, because I won't touch the blue ones! :)
ReplyDeleteI wrote a post about a year ago about how I got into with someone over a parking spot (is there just something with Target spots?!) Not one of my brighter moments. Trust me, I wish I had let it go!
LOL. I'm not above a little fisticuffs with grandma, either. But I'm trying to be a better example for my son. :)
ReplyDeleteps - thank you SO MUCH for not having Captcha. I hate it.
ReplyDeleteGreat article! This is the kind of information that should be shared across the net.
ReplyDeleteShame on the search engines for no longer positioning this publish upper!
Come on over and consult with my website . Thank you =)

The parking spot thief is one of the most annoying things of all time, BUT a little old lady looking all sweet and being the devil? That is in the TOP THREE most annoying things of all time! It's a lose/lose if you try to reason with her, so what, they're just allowed to do whatever? Just wait until I GET OLD! :)
ReplyDeletep.s. the parking lot thing is SO BAD where I live that now I purposely try to find a spot in the BACK of the parking lot, hopefully next to a cart return so I can at least plop my 2 toddlers into a cart for the long haul into the store. I call it a workout (hahaha it's the most exercise I get most days) and at least no one is fighting me in or OUT of the spot! Great post. I'm a sucker for a happy ending!
